With "wake on lan" you can wake up a computer connected to your local network and, depending on your hardware, over the internet. With some machines you are even able to start a powered off computer.
Wake on Lan is an integrated part of the iNet Pro app. Additionally we outsourced the wake on lan part of iNet to provide you with a fast and more convenient way to wake up computers without having to choose this function from a main menu. You will find it in the App Store searching for iNet.
The computer to wake up has to be connected via an ethernet cable. A wake up over WiFi is possible on some newer computers. Please see the manufacturer description of your computer.
If you want to wake up a laptop or mobile computer this computer has to be connected with a power supply (for energy saving reasons the wol function of the ethernet card will be automatically disabled when running on battery).
The computer to wake up must support wake on lan and has to be configured correctly.
On part of iNet WOL the configuration is very easy. Just click on the "+"-button and then choose "Search network for devices ...". Wake on Lan finds the IP and the MAC address of the locally connected and running devices so you can even configure multiple computer at once. Simply tap on an item in order to add it to your favorites list.
To use wake on lan over the internet the router has to be capable of forwarding the "magic packet" to the local broadcast address and has to be configured correctly. We recommend the setup only for experienced users because there are a lot of possible misconfigurations. With certain hardware configurations WOL over the internet is not possible at all.
The basic setup procedure: Open the router configuration menu, setup a port forwarding to the IP address of the device you want to wake up (usually to UDP port 9), make sure your network ist reachable via internet (e.g. via DynDNS).
